Does Benzoyl Peroxide Work for Cold Sores?
I have happily discovered that 10% benzoyl peroxide gel dries up cold sores much faster than Abreva or calamine lotion. When I'm sitting around the house, I apply a large drop to the sore with a Q-tip and allow the drop to dry. It may look funny, but the product causes the sore to dry up and fall off within a day or two. Best of all, benzoyl peroxide forms a hard, protective bubble that keeps my sore from touching cups and drinking glasses. That's a big worry for me, as I know the virus may linger on cups or get on my fingers when I was dishes. The fear is that my lips will touch a different section of the glass each time I go for another sip, thus infecting other areas of my lip. Do you have any innovative techniques for healing cold sores faster or preventing their spread? I've read that double strength Lysine pills are the ultimate! Has anyone tried them?
